The Salvation Army offers lots of donation options so that your gift will have an immediate or long term impact. Your support helps us to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the people who walk through our doors every day. We’ll make sure your monetary donation – including gifts made via cash, check, money order or credit card – is used in exactly the way you want to help. Whatever your passion, we have a way for you to give in support of it.
Here are ways to give to have an immediate impact:
1. Give by credit card
2. Give over the phone at 800-SAL-ARMY (725-2769) 24 hours.
3. Give by check through the mail. Make your check payable to:
The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command
2626 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20037
Your gift of any amount is appreciated and helps us to continue Doing the Most Good.
Want to double your gift? Check to see if your company has a matching gifts program. Many businesses will match gifts given by employees to The Salvation Army, often doubling the total gift. To start a matching program with The Salvation Army, please contact the Donor Care Manager at 202-756-3918.
Foundations, Grants and Donor Advised Funding
Will your gift be from a grant, Donor Advised Fund, or Family Foundation? For assistance, contact Mary Beth Campbell at 202-497-9001.
Donations of stock can be a benefit to you as well as to The Salvation Army. An outright gift of long-term securities (owned more than one year) to The Salvation Army is free of capital gains tax, no matter how much their value may have risen. Therefore, it is better to donate appreciated long-term stock outright than to sell it yourself and then donate the money to charity, in which case you would be responsible for the capital gains tax. A gift of stock also allows you to remove the appreciated asset from your taxable estate.
Learn more or make a stock gift by contacting Albert DeCesaris, Regional Resource Development Director, at 202-904-5118 or at Albert.Decesaris@uss.salvationarmy.org.
Your donation of goods to a Salvation Army Family Store supports Adult Rehabilitation Centers that provide spiritual, social and emotional assistance for men who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves.
Each center offers residential housing, work, and group and individual therapy, all in a clean, wholesome environment. The physical and spiritual care that program participants receive prepares them to re-enter society and return to gainful employment. Many of those who have been rehabilitated are reunited with their families and resume a normal life.
