Looking to get help? The Salvation Army provides emergency rental, utility, and food assistance to effectively help prevent homelessness. We assist families in solving their immediate crisis and making plans for the future. The Salvation Army’s Emergency Assistance (EMAST) Program offers a comprehensive approach to help meet the basic needs of families experiencing a crisis and at risk of homelessness. We offer the following to the community:
- Rent and mortgage assistance
- Utility assistance
- Food distribution
- Clothing/Furniture/Household items
- Burial assistance
- Bus passes/Gas vouchers for transportation
- Information and referral
- Case Management
- Seasonal programs: School supplies and school shoes, holiday food and gifts
Assistance is available at 8 locations throughout the Washington DC area. Our social service workers develop a program plan with families to stabilize the crisis and move the family toward self-sufficiency. In order to achieve this goal, our dedicated staff makes referrals as needed to partnering agencies and follow-up on the referral process to determine the client’s progress.
