Approximately 150 D.C. kids will get top-of-the-line athletic instruction from some of the Capital Area’s football greats! Retired Redskins players Santana Moss and Brian Mitchell and The Catholic University of America Cardinals football team are collaborating to host The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command’s first “D.C. Youth Ballers Camp.”
The camp aims to provide young campers with the skills and attitude needed to succeed. The Salvation Army has a history of promoting child development and enrichment through education inside and outside the classroom. With this memorable experience, we hope to set kids on a path to lead during plays and in their community.
From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., campers will learn the best from Moss and the Cardinals’ coaching staff, led by Head Coach Mike Gutelius, at Cardinal Stadium on The Catholic University’s campus. Lunch will be provided to campers on both days by Timber Pizza Company and Brookland Pint, and Gatorade will be provided by Giant Foods. Campers were registered for the free camp in May through the Sherman Avenue Corps, Solomon G. Brown Corps, Beacon House, and The Ward 5 Warriors.
Beacon House is a Northeast DC-based nonprofit with a mission to support young students in Ward 5 by providing a safe, nurturing community; increasing their academic enrichment; and helping them grow into healthy adults who will achieve their greatest potential. Ward 5 Warriors a community-based youth organization aimed at giving local children with positive outlets and empowerment through mentorship and athletics.
