For over a quarter of a century, the small but mighty Salvation Army Landmark Corps has been nourishing the needs of the growing Korean-American population in Northern Virginia. At the heart of this ministry is Saturday School, a weekly opportunity for Korean-American children to learn about their heritage, including language, culture, music, and art. Nearly 60 kids attend these classes which are led by local volunteers and more than 20 trained teachers.
Friday nights at the Landmark Corps bring opportunities for young people through the Youth Music and Junior Soldier programs. These programs give kids ages 6-17 the chance to test their musical talents on brass instruments, the guitar or even the drums – developing skills that will last a lifetime.
Numbers have gotten so large that the corps has outgrown its space in the Landmark section of Alexandria and has taken up residence at The Salvation Army center in Fairfax, VA. Friday classes, Saturday school and Sunday worship services have all found a home here, offering fellowship and spiritual support to this unique and growing community.
