The Salvation Army at Alexandria Citadel Corps is helping people meet their basic needs – and turn their lives around. This is evident at Cornerstone, Alexandria’s supported independent living program. More than just a bed, Cornerstone is a foundation for change. The program helps women suffering from chronic job and home loss, and works with them to break the cycle of poverty through case management, career training, life skills and spiritual support.

Emergency Assistance

Year-round support is available for people in crisis – utility and rental assistance for families facing eviction, food and gift baskets for the hungry and utility help to keep the lights or water on. At the core of it all is the commitment to meeting the spiritual needs of the community, through weekly church services and bible study, which is open to everyone.

Music Instruction

Skilled music teachers volunteer their time through the Alexandria School for the Performing Arts (ASPA) to tutor kids in guitar, piano, and percussion among other instruments. Donations make it affordable for cash-strapped parents to enroll their child. Each semester ends with a recital so students can share their talent with the community.
