Emergency Response to Harvey continues

The best way to help is through monetary donations.

The Salvation Army continues to serve the needs of survivors and relief workers affected by Hurricane Harvey’s devastating blow to southeastern Texas. The round the clock emergency disaster service is bringing physical help and emotional and spiritual support to people throughout the region affected by now Tropical Storm Harvey.

Salvation Army emergency teams have deployed from Florida, Georgia, and other nearby states to assist with disaster response. Even as Harvey threatens coastal Louisiana, The Salvation Army is ready to respond. The Salvation Army has 29 canteens or mobile feeding trucks stocked with food, water, and snacks, and ready to respond if needed.

Local response teams are standing by and will deploy if called upon to provide additional assistance to affected communities across the southern Louisiana and coastal southeastern Texas. We will provide alerts should local disaster response teams be deployed.

In times of disaster, The Salvation Army traditionally serves and prepares meals from its mobile canteens, helps distribute cleaning supplies, and offers comfort to those impacted. According to Lanita Lloyd, “The best way to help survivors and relief workers is to make a financial contribution.” Monetary donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of disaster survivors as the situation continues to be assessed.

At the moment, The Salvation Army is not accepting in-kind donations from the general public for disaster relief operations. We are asking anyone interested in donating your used clothing, used furniture, and other items to do so at any local Salvation Army Family Store. The Salvation Army depends upon your donation of used clothing and other items to support local programming throughout the year.

The community can make an immediate impact by making a financial donation to help survivors and the relief effort. Here’s how:
